Discover the Leas Lift Family Heritage Trail

Looking for a fun, free, and educational way to explore Folkestone’s unique history with the whole family? Just in time for the Easter holidays and ready to enjoy all year round, we’re excited to launch the Leas Lift Family Heritage Trail – a brand-new activity trail designed for curious minds aged 5 and up.

This beautifully designed 10-page booklet is packed with archival photographs, bite-sized historical facts, and gentle mindful activities, encouraging families to explore Folkestone’s famous Leas Lift and its surrounding heritage at their own pace. And best of all, no pens or pencils are needed – just pick up a trail and go!

From the exhilarating curves of the old Switchback Railway to the stories of the now-lost Victoria Pier, the trail brings the seafront’s fascinating past to life. Along the way, you’ll discover snippets of local engineering history, fun facts, and activities that invite you to pause, observe, and connect with the world around you.

Whether you’re local or visiting Folkestone for the day, this trail offers a brilliant opportunity to learn something new, spend quality time outdoors, and deepen your connection to the town’s historic coastline.

You can pick up your free trail booklet from the Leas Lift Café Container on the seafront. It’s the perfect companion for a springtime stroll, a seaside adventure, or a weekend wander.
